For property tax deduction information and forms please see the Tax Assessor page on our website.
The Tax Collector is responsible for billing, collection, reporting and enforcement of municipal taxes for the Township of Delaware.
The tax bills are mailed in July and the first payment is due August 1st.
Property taxes are due on February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1. Tax stubs from your bill should be included with your payment.
Tax information or payment information can be obtained by printing a current or old tax bill off our township website. The State Aid figure on the right side of your tax bill has already been deducted from the amount printed on your stubs. Please do not deduct this amount from your payment.
When money is escrowed for taxes, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to notify the tax office in writing with the bank code of their lending agency. Anytime a property is refinanced or sold to another bank, the bank code must be changed. When mortgages are satisfied, the tax office must be notified in writing to remove the bank code.
Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying taxes (NJSA 54:4-64) or the interest due on delinquent taxes. The Township does permit a 10 day grace period. The State of New Jersey does not permit the use of postmark dates, taxes must be received in the office on or before the 10th however, if the 10th falls on a weekend or legal holiday, you have until the next business day to make payment. Tax payments received after the grace period will be charged interest back to the 1st.
As a statutory officer licensed by the State of New Jersey, the Tax Collector is obligated to follow all the State Statutes regarding property tax collection including billing, due dates, interest on delinquent tax payments and tax sale procedures.
You may use the drop box in the municipal building parking lot or by the main door for Township payments or correspondence for your convenience. These boxes are checked daily by our office staff.
Any open balance as of December 31st of the current year is subject to tax sale. The tax sale list will be advertised in the Times of Trenton.
No credit card payments may be accepted once a property is included on the tax sale list.
Investors wishing to attend the tax sale must provide a W-9 Form, Federal ID# (if using company name) or Social Security # (if filing as individual). You will be asked to complete a Tax Sale Bidder Information Sheet also.
Delaware Township has a 6% Year End Penalty. We will hold a standard tax sale based on a calendar year. At time of sale, we only accept CERTIFIED FUNDS (such as certified checks, money orders, wires, and cash). Absolutely no exceptions. You must pay using these funds at the end of the sale. No Business checks.
Information regarding the annual tax sale can be found in NJSA 54:5-19 etc.
