The Board of Health meets on the First Monday of the Month at 7:30 p.m. at the Delaware Township Building. This board does not meet in July.

The role of the Township Board of Health is to assure the protection, promotion and monitoring of the health status and condition of the citizens of Delaware Township.  The Board will accomplish this by listening, advising and formulating programs and regulations to promote Public Health in our Township. The Board will implement and adhere to all the requirements established by the State of New Jersey Statutes.  The Board will act swiftly to resolve all topics brought to its attention. The Board will look to maintain a high level of expertise of its members. The Board will provide education to the public through the Township and County websites and local special events.  The Board will give support to the Animal Control Officer as required. The Board pledges to maintain an open dialogue with the citizens of Delaware Township.

The Board, appointed by the Township Committee and provided technical expertise and guidance by the County Department of Health, includes the following among its responsibilities:

  • To review permit applications for well and septic designs.
  • With the help of the Animal Control Officer, to oversee animal treatment and pet licensing.
  • To oversee the licensing and operation of food establishments.
  • To monitor contagious illnesses, which have the potential to impact the health of the community, in both animals and people, for example rabies.

Dog Licensing — All dogs are required by the State and municipal code to have a license and they are to be renewed annually.
Cat Licensing — Cats are also required by this township to be licensed and that license be renewed annually.

The Dog and Cat licenses EXPIRE every December 31st in Delaware Township

Licenses must be renewed by February 28th of the following year. Please provide proof of current rabies vaccination when renewing your license. Vaccination must not expire before 11/1 of the licensing year. If you no longer have your pet that was licensed last year, please call Deanna Higgins, Animal Licensing Agent at 609-483-2665.

FEES:
$11.00 each spayed/neutered dog
$14.00 each unsprayed/non-neutered dog
$10.00 per household for cats

Beginning March 1st a $30.00* late fee per dog and per household in the case of cat registration will also be required. Only exact cash or check is accepted as payment. Please make checks payable to Delaware Township. Please provide self addressed stamped envelope for return of license by mail. Please add extra postage for 2 or more animals.

*The above deadline and late fees are based on the passage by the Board of Health of the Township of Delaware Ordinance #2005-26 BH on December 5, 2005.

Board of Health Ordinances

The Board of Health’s secretary is available Monday thru Thursday from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Township Hall (609) 397-3240, ext. 205.  The Board of Health sponsors a free rabies clinic each year on the first Saturday in December from 10am to 12 noon; pets must be in a carrier or on a leash.
