Sustainable Jersey Grant Awarded to Delaware Township

Three cheers for the Delaware Township Green Team/Environmental Commission and the Open Space Committee for preparing the application that resulted in Delaware Township being awarded a $2,000 grant through the Sustainable Jersey Grant Program funded by the PSEG Foundation.

Members of the Green Team/Environmental Commission’s Grant Subcommittee attended the awards ceremony May 22, 2023 at The College of New Jersey. It was an honor to be selected from the hundreds of applicants.

When exploring in Delaware Township, “Are we there yet?”, will be a question from the past. That information will be at your fingertips when the team finishes mapping and coordinating public accessible locations and their amenities.

Through the Delaware Township website or by using a QR code, information such as parking, handicap accessibility, history, trail difficulty and more will be readily available in one spot.

Volunteer members of the joint Environmental Commission and Open Space Committee Grant Subcommittees are diligently working to compile and sort information about Delaware Township’s many incredible outdoor locations.

The initial plan entails, identifying properties, contacting owners and listing facilities and their amenities. The joint committee is working on a list of amenities, facilities and histories of the spaces.

These are on the list:

• What is the name of the park/trail/preserve?
• Is there a website link or brochure/flyer to the park/preserve?
• What is the history of park/preserve? What are the dates/hours for public access?
• Are there any trails/walking paths? What is the length/surface/difficulty of trails?
• Handicap accessible? Is there a trail map available?
• On the property’s website? At the trailhead?
• What are the features, flora or fauna of interest?
• Are bicycles allowed?
• Are dogs/horses allowed?
• Fishing allowed? Is hunting allowed?
• What are the GPS coordinates?
• Is parking available?
• Is there handicap accessible parking?
• Are there restrooms or porta-potty?
• Are there trash and/or recycling cans?
• Is there potable water?
• Are there picnic tables? Grills? A pavilion?
• Are there any rental/use fees? Groups allowed?
• Cell phone coverage?
• Other: Playground, Sports fields, Tennis courts, Basketball courts, pickle-ball courts?
